The best fit starts with one measurement: chest girth.
How to Measure Your Dog
- Have your dog stand naturally on a flat surface.
- Wrap a soft measuring tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Keep the measuring tape snug but not tight.
- Measure twice to confirm the result.
- Compare the measurement with the size chart shown on the product page.
Important Sizing Notes
- Use chest girth as the primary measurement.
- Weight and breed are general references only.
- Do not size down to create a tighter fit.
- Dogs with broad chests, deep chests, or thick coats may need additional room.
- If your dog falls between sizes, contact us before ordering.
Fit Check Before Water Use
Fasten and adjust every strap while your dog is standing naturally.
A correct fit should:
- Stay centered on your dog’s back
- Allow approximately two fingers beneath the straps
- Keep the chin float beneath the jaw without pressing against the throat
- Allow comfortable breathing and free front-leg movement
- Resist excessive twisting or sliding
- Remain secure when the top handle is lifted gently for a brief fit check
Dry Test First
Always complete the first fitting indoors while your dog and the product are completely dry.
Do not remove the original tags or enter the water until you are satisfied with the size.
Products used in water are not eligible for a standard sizing return.
Standard Size Exchange
An eligible unused product may be exchanged within 30 days after delivery under our Returns, Refunds & Exchanges Policy.
The life jacket must be unused in water, unwashed, free from pet hair, odor, stains, damage, and visible wear, and returned with its original tags, accessories, and packaging.
Size & Style Fit Guarantee
The Size & Style Fit Guarantee is an optional paid service and must appear in the original order.
An approved request provides one replacement SafeSwim™ life jacket in a different available size or color.
The request must be submitted within 30 days after delivery.
To request assistance, email support@petscarrier.com with:
- Your order number
- Your dog’s chest measurement
- Your dog’s weight and breed
- The size originally ordered
- The requested replacement size or color
- Photos showing the current fit, when requested
The Fit Guarantee is limited to one approved replacement per covered life jacket and does not provide a cash refund.
